LeT District Commander killed in Pulwama gunfight, Geelani pays tributes | KNO

Pulwama. February 06 (KNO): A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander was killed in a gunfight in Chakoora area of the Pulwama district on Wednesday, while one of his associates managed to give forces a slip. The slain militant was identified as Irfan Ahmad Sheikh of Chakoora village. A top police official told KNO that Sheikh was outfit's district commander for Pulwama and was active since one year. The official said that they had received a specific intelligence input that militants are hiding in the area and launched search operations jointly with Army, CRPF and SOG of Pulwama. As forces were conducting the searches militants fired a volley of bullets of forces leading to the gunfight in which Irfan was killed. Police sources confided to KNO that they had specific information that there was another militant and believe that he might have escaped in the initial round of exchange of fire. Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani has paid tributes to the slain militant commander saying ‘these brave youth are sacrificing their today for the freedom of our land’ and also condemned arrest of nine youth who were detained during overnight raids in two villages Arigam and Arihal of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
